| Nadia Bergeron was born in 1987, Cornwall, Ontario and moved to Martintown, Ontario at the age of 4. As a child, she was very artistic. At seven years old she attended drawing and painting classes at McCormick’s Art Studios, Cornwall. Nadia moved to Sudbury at the age of 14 with her family where she attended Marymount Academy. In 2003, a class trip to Cambrian College sparked her interest in the graphic design profession. Mrs. Fairgrieve, her high school art teacher, encouraged her on that path. Nadia graduated as top art student and was awarded the Josten’s Art Bursary and an Entrance Bursary from the Cambrian Foundation. In 2005, she majored in graphic design at Cambrian College of Applied Arts and Technology and learned much under the instruction and guidance of top teachers and director of the college Graphic Art and Design program, Ron Beltrame, RGD. During her three years at Cambrian, Nadia was involved in Visions, the Graphic Design Association and was Co-president in her second year. Vision represents Cambrian design students both socially, and academically. She delivered public briefings and coordinated fundraising events with a team of design students. Nadia made the Cambrian College Dean list for 2006-2008 school years and the President’s honour roll for 2008. In 2006, Nadia received the Xstrata Bursary for leadership, high academic standards, functioning as a student advocate, and pursuing community pro-bono work. She received a Cambrian College 1st place Art Honorarium, also in 2006, and sold a painting to Cambrian College for their permanent art collection. In the summer of 2006 and 2007, Nadia volunteered as a stage painter at the Northern Light Festival Boreal. In the fall, she participated in the Uncommon Sense tree planting initiative where graphic designers got together and planted 800 trees to promote environmental sustainability by minimizing and eventually neutralizing the carbon footprint of our academic program. In the spring, she designed a mural and organized a group of artists to paint at the Meals on Wheels community center for National Volunteer Week. Since 2005, her summers have included giving painting and art classes to all ages, from 3 to 90 . She has sold several paintings and portraits. Nadia has created Graphic Design and Art work since the summer of 2006 for Gougeon Insurance and greatly appreciates this rewarding experience. In 2008, she was published in the March issue of the first design magazine in Sudbury, titled soap water. She won 1st and 3rd place in the Heads of Media and Design (HOMAD) Logo Competition. In the spring she received the Students Administrative Council Bursary. Nadia graduated in May 2008, as a Cambrian Scholar. She is presently in Toronto attending the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD) to further her knowledge and creative skills and graduate with a Bachelor of Design degree. She has received advanced status due to her high achievement and strong portfolio and begins September 2008 in the third year of the four-year Bachelor of Design degree program. She is a student representative and member of RGD, Association of Registered Graphic Designers of Ontario. She plans to achieve Professional RGD status by 2010. Eventually she aspires to have her own design firm. With her energy and devotion to her chosen career path, she aims to further contribute her talent to her community and hopes to carry her love and passion for beautiful design throughout her life. |
